It’s Christmas! Ah, Christmastime. Once a year, there’s a certain chill in the air, the smell of baked goods delight your nose and make your taste buds tingle, and you get to spend time with family and friends who all come together. It’s my favourite time of the year. I think it’s the contagious joy that’s in the air this time of year. Most - if not everyone - is happy around Christmastime. Sure, it’s pretty stressful for parents who try so hard to get what their child wants, but the joy on the child’s face is completely worth it on Christmas morning. Yeah, my absolute favorite part of this season is giving someone the reason to smile. So with that said, I’m going to make these next few blog posts into a series. Hopefully, they’ll be able to make you smile and get you into a festive mood. And to start off our Christmas series, I give you three more of my favorite things about the Holidays.

1. Christmas decorations So this is something that most people have done already but, if you haven’t, you should. There’s something about Christmas Lights and baubles that just make my eyes light up with wonder. Driving around and looking at people’s Christmas Decorations make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And yeah, setting up my own is pretty annoying and a whole lot of hard work, but the end result is beautiful and heartwarming and maybe could be called a work of art. Also, if you celebrate Christmas and don't have up any type of Christmas Tree in your house, what are you doing?

2. Christmas Songs Oh, the songs we sing around Christmastime. So many come to mind, but it’s the creole songs that really stick with me through the season. Because, if we’re being honest, the traditional Christmas songs that get played on the radio don’t really relate to Christmas in Belize. We don’t have snow and most people don’t hang mistletoe. There are cold fronts that usually come through, but it doesn’t get anywhere close to the cold that Michael Bublé and others sing about.

But then again, if we’re being honest, I can’t exactly relate to the creole songs that sing about Bram and Boom an’ Chime and those things. So I guess it’s just that I associate these songs with being played around Christmas. 3. Family and friends Everyone is coming home! Well, not everyone but, most people are coming home for the holidays. Spending time with Family is something that should be done every holiday, but unfortunately some people don’t have family to spend it with. That is where friends come in.

The right friends, if you have them, function just like a family. You can be mad at them, you can fight with them and they can scare you sometimes but you never leave them. Not completely. Around the holidays is a time for togetherness. A time to throw all your cares and worries away and just have fun with whomever you’re with. If you haven’t, you should set aside time to be with family and friends this Christmas. It just might make your days a bit more merry and bright. And so those are 3 things that I love about the holidays. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading, and I hope I haven’t bored you too much. I just love Christmas and these three things are just part of the reason why. There are more that I’d like to elaborate on, but those are for the other blog posts in this series. I hope you, dear reader, are here for the others. Thanks for Clicking, Chey❤️
